Outlined below are the minimum recommended security settings which should be applied to a Linked-In account, without affecting the functionality of the account.
Log in to your Linked In profile.
Place curser over your small profile picture (Step 2.1) and select Privacy & Settings option (Step 2.2).
After Step 2.2, Linked-In may require further authentication and will display the Log In screen again. Enter your Log In details again. This is an additional layer of security to prevent unauthorised tampering with an account.
On the Activity broadcasts dialogue box, ensure the option Let people know when you change your profile, make recommendations, or follow companies is not ticked (Step 4.1). Click Save changes (Step 4.2).
On the Who can see your activity feed dialogue box, click on the drop down arrow (Step 6.1), select Your Connections from the options. Then click on Save changes (Step 6.2).
he Profile (Step 7.1) tab, click on Select what others see when you’ve viewed their profile (Step 7.2).
On the What others see when you’ve viewed their profile dialogue screen, select the You will be totally anonymous option (Step 8.1), to ensure you remain anonymous when conducting searches. Click on Save changes (Step 8.2).
On the Profile (Step 9.1) tab, click on Select who can see your connections (Step 9.2).
On the Who can see your connections dialogue box, click on the drop down arrow and select the Only you (Step 10.1) option. Click on Save changes (Step 10.2).
On the Profile (Step 11.1) tab, click on Change your profile photo & visibility (Step 11.2).
On the displayed page, select My Connections option (Step 12.1). Click on Save Settings (Step 12.2).
On pressing Save Settings, you will be returned to your home screen. Repeat Step 2 to return to the Profile tab.
On the Profile (Step 13.1) tab, click on Edit your public profile (Step 13.2).
On Public Profile screen select Make my public profile visible to no one (Step 14.1). This will stop non-members from searching for your profile via external search engines. To return to the Profile tab select Go back to Settings (Step 14.2)
On the Profile (Step 15.1) tab, click on Edit your name, location & industry (Step 16.2).
On the Edit Profile screen, select the added Privacy option under the Display Name section (Step 16.1). This will then display only your first name and first letter of your surname. Select Save Changes (16.2).
From settings, select the Account tab (Step 17.1) and click on Manage security settings (Step 18.2).
On the Security Settings screen, select the When possible, use a secure connection (https) to browse LinkedIn option (Step 18.1). Select Done (18.2).
